Mike: When you are
not fighting or training, what do you like to do for fun?
Dan: I enjoy spending time with my girl, making the most of the LA weather.
I watch a lot of movies and stand up comedy, I go to gigs and comedy
shows a lot. I am hooked on classic American muscle cars. I’m looking
to buy one at the moment actually. I watch loads of sports, anything
from MMA to football (American) and ice hockey. I also have my iPod
playing all the time!
Mike: One of the first things people recognize
when they see you is the hair; can you tell us how the Mohawk started?
Dan: I’m not sure really, I guess it’s down to the scene I grew up in
and the music I listen to. I listen to lots of British punk and American
hardcore and metal. I guess I like the attention it draws too, people
either love it or hate it, either is fine with me. It’s an easy way
of figuring out if I would get along with someone of not! If they aren’t
my kind of person, they would generally avoid talking to me.
Mike: What kind of music do you listen to most?
Dan: I go through phases, at the moment I’m listening to hardcore bands
like downset and madball. On weekends and evenings I go for something
a little more chilled out, like ska or reggae, bands like the beat and
the specials. I have a lot of other stuff on my iPod though; from real
heavy stuff like iron monkey and blood red throne to elvis and buffalo
springfield. You got to have something for every occasion.
Mike: Favorite band?
Dan: That’s a difficult one! It’s a tie between pantera and madness.
Mike: Who's better The Clash or The Sex Pistols?
Dan: Both have their place, but I’m leaning towards the clash, purely
for the song 'rudie cant fail'. Although 'who killed bambi?' by the
pistols is a great song. I remember that from when I was a kid, in the
back of my dads Ford Cortina!
Mike: What's a CD that you own, that you don't
want your friends to see?
Dan: (reaches for iPod) hmmm... Abba's greatest hits has to be one of
them. I have a lot of stuff that surprises people when they are looking
through my iPod. They usually say something like, "ha! you have
Phil Collins on here...?", next thing they are singing at the top
of their voice to 'easy lover'.
Mike: Favorite Actor?
Dan: Got to say Johnny Depp, great actor.
Mike: Favorite Movie?
Dan: I’m torn between 'fear and loathing in Las Vegas' and enter the
dragon. I have watched both hundreds of times.
Mike: I'm a big fan of horror, so I also have
to ask what's your favorite scary movie?
Dan: 'The ring' was pretty scary… but I would probably say 'the shining'.
Anything with freaky kids in it is pretty scary, even the cheesy ones
like 'children of the corn'.
Mike: Best chick flick?
Dan: The newer 'Romeo and Juliet' was pretty good, or maybe Notting
Hill. ha! This is making me sound like some 'chick flick' connoisseur...
damn, you got me.
Mike: Has the Outlaw ever cried during a movie?
Dan: Dan hardy might have once or twice, but the outlaw never cries!
Mike: If you could spend a day with any "celebrity"
who would you pick?
Dan: My girlfriend might read this so I better pick a dude! I would
probably pick Katt Williams or Ricky Gervais, that would be a laugh.
Mike: What's your cheat food?
Dan: Subway chocolate chip cookies, they do lose their appeal after
about twenty though.
Mike: Most embarrassing moment?
Dan: I don’t know actually, I don’t tend to worry too much about things.
I have a few memories from my drinking days that, in hindsight, were
a stupid idea, but I wouldn’t say I’m embarrassed about it. Sometimes
you make a stupid decision; you have to be able to laugh at yourself
though. I find myself hilarious!
Mike: Any pets?
Dan: Not any more, I used to have a dog called pip, when I was younger.
I travel too much now, I’ll have a dog again one day though.
Mike: If you could get one non MMA fighter in
the cage who would it be?
Dan: John Mccain could do with a slap for trying to get MMA banned a
while back, but I’d probably just hide his blood pressure medication
instead. Dick Cheney is up there too, never has a man’s first name been
so suitable.
