TONY: First off
Brandon, I would Like to thank you for sitting down with me and doing
this interview, especially before your next fight coming up with Keith
Jardine on October 18th?
BRANDON: No problem. Thank you for having me, Tony.
TONY: Now I know you might have some words to
say about your recent fight with Fabricio Werdum. Let’s go back to that
night. Do you feel the stop was right?
BRANDON: No. That stop was for sure bullshit. But, no need to cry over
spilled milk. I think I'm over it now.
TONY: I personally feel the call was wrong and
with the training you go through in your camp, I'm sure 20 seconds left,
is nowhere nearly as bad as the rounds you do during training.
BRANDON: Hell no.... I wind up in bad positions all the time and have
to stay there sometimes.
TONY: Are you put in worse situations in training then in the position
Werdum had you in the last seconds of the round?
BRANDON: Yes sir.
TONY: If the opportunity is given for a Vera vs.
Werdum 2, would you take it? Or would you focus on the light-heavy weight
division?
BRANDON: Before this Jardine fight, I would have said hell yes!!!! I've
changed a lot since my fight with Reese Andy. It's only been about 7
weeks since then, but my outlook on a lot of things have changed. My
diet is so strict now and I feel way better. I had to make adjustments
and add more food cuz 1st day after training camp I was only 199.8lbs.
TONY: Werdum said yes in the ring to a re-match.
But right after the fight and at the press conference he said "
NO". Your thoughts?
BRANDON: Like Forrest GUMP he was running.
TONY: Now that you are in the light-heavy weight
division, is this the new home for Vera, or would you still jump to
heavy if an opportunity presented itself?
BRANDON: Like I said earlier I'm not sure. Having to cut weight again
would suck.
TONY: Your last fight with Andy, the weight cut
seemed pretty hard and it looked like it took its toll on your performance.
How are you feeling now walking around at that weight?
BRANDON: Excellent I'll never cut weight like that again.
TONY: Your next opponent is Keith Jardine. Do you feel the two of you
match up well?
BRANDON: I think we are almost exactly the same. Someone's gonna go
to sleep that night.
TONY: How do you see this fight going?
BRANDON: I win by KO or he win's by KO....LOL.
Tony: LOL
TONY: And right now how’s training been for you
in preparing for Jardine?
BRANDON: Good, I came into training camp on weight and in better shape
already
TONY: Who are some of the guys in your training
camp?
BRANDON: Tim Carpenter is my main stay guy, but there's so many. I got
to train with Gator Man Jacare as well.
TONY: After this fight will you take some time
off, or will you keep going and try and get more fights in, back-to-back
with no gaps?
BRANDON: No more 5-6month gaps, those suck. God willing we stay injury
free. I am, however, gonna take 1 month off and travel with the Mrs.
after this fight.
TONY: Aside from training and getting ready for
a fight, what are some of the things you do for an escape?
BRANDON: Play video games, hang out with the Mrs. and playing with the
dogs.
TONY: Your new training center is called Alliance.
How are things going with your new gym?
BRANDON: Excellent…we're 1 year new and doing big things...A second
one is in the works for El Cajon, and a third one for the Philippines.
TONY: When you’re not at the gym and just hanging
out, for people/ fans who don't know you, are you a very easy person
to approach and talk to?
BRANDON: Hell yea..... I love talking with the fans and I ask questions
as well.
TONY: After this fight with Jardine, what can
we expect to see in 09' with Brandon Vera?
BRANDON: Expect me to fight 3-4 more times in 09.
TONY: To this day are you amazed on how all the
hard work payed off, and that you are in the UFC?
BRANDON: Hell Yes.
TONY: Any last words to all the fans before you
head out Brandon?
BRANDON: Thank you for all your support. To all my real fans, I told
you there were gonna be some ups, and downs...I'm here and I'm back.
TONY: Thanks again Brandon, take care and kick
some ass.
BRANDON: Thank you again.
