MMA Sports caught up with Brad Morris
this week to speak about his upcoming UFC fight against Jason Brilz
this weekend on UFC Fight Night at the light heavyweight division.
MMA Sports: Thanks for
taking the time out for the interview, how is training coming along
for your fight this weekend at UFC Fight Night?
Brad: Training has been good, I am where I need to be physically and
mentally.
MMA Sports: This is your second time in the UFC,
how much does this mean to you to get a second shot?
Brad: It means a hell of a lot! But I understand that I have to perform!
I am excited about the thought of redeeming myself inside the Octagon.
MMA Sports: You’ve dropped from heavyweight to
light heavyweight, is the weight cut any issue?
Brad: No weight cut will not be an issue, I have already had a practice
cut down to 205 lbs, and I am walking around at about 215 lbs right
now.
MMA Sports: And the decision to drop the weight?
Brad: The U.F.C. asked me back at Light Heavyweight, I was not going
to say no, besides I have had numerous top level fighters and trainers
tell me that would be a better weight for me to fight at.
MMA Sports: Will Light Heavyweight be your new
home?
Brad: Yes it will.
MMA Sports: How much do you know about your opponent,
Jason Brilz?
Brad: Enough to know he is 15-1-1, with a lot of experience and a strong
wrestling background
MMA Sports: Tell us a little about the team you
have been training with for this fight?
Brad: I prepared in Australia with some good guys including Elvis Sinosic
and Anthony Perosh. I landed in the U.S. a few days ago and have been
training here with former T.U.F. contestant Dan Barrera among others.
MMA Sports: Any predictions on the fight against
Jason Brilz?
Brad: No predictions, I just want to fight hard and come out with a
win anyway I can!
MMA Sports: You fought Cain Velasquez at UFC
83, obviously the fight didn’t go as planned, what were your thoughts
on that fight?
Brad: I lost, I have learnt a lot from that and changed several things
to address the issues I had during the fight. I won’t make any excuses
for the performance that night, obviously I was bitterly disappointed
but I have learnt from it and am moving forward.
MMA Sports: A lot of fighters talk about UFC
debut jitters, what were the nerves like your first time around?
Brad: The U.F.C is above and beyond anything else I have every fought
on, walking out in front of over 22,000 people was an experience…..as
it turned out a rather painful one.
MMA Sports: What will MMA fans see this time
around that they didn’t see in your first UFC fight?
Brad: A fight! Last fight I was shut down early and spent the majority
of the fight just trying to survive. This time I will show what I am
capable of and why I got the offer to fight in the UFC in the first
place.
MMA Sports: Fighting at light heavyweight now,
what were your thoughts on the Liddell vs Evans fight?
Brad: Wow, what a punch! I really wanted to see Chuck win. But you have
to hand it to Evans he fought a smart fight and came away with a solid
KO win over one of the best Light Heavies in U.F.C. history.
MMA Sports: It’s a stacked division, anyone in
particular that you would like to fight?
Brad: Wandy Silva, the guy is just awesome. It would be an honor to
step into the same cage as him!
MMA Sports: Good luck with the fight. Any final
comments?
Brad: Thanks to my Sponsors Musashi and my manager Ron Dayley of Scientific
Street Fighting. Also to all the guys who helped me prepare for this
fight!
