By Mike Denny for MMA Sports

If you are looking for a fighter that is full of heart, you can't look past Alan Belcher. His recent TKO win against Wilson Gouveia and his victories are definitely impressive with wins over Denis Kang, Ed Herman, Kalib Starnes and Sean Salmon.

Mike: First off congrats on a big win over Wilson Gouveia, what are your thoughts on the fight?
Alan: Couldn’t have drew it on paper better, although I can correct a few things, my plan was to not let him get momentum, and to give back harder when he started strong. I surprised him when I didn’t throw kicks I believe. I proved I am a contender. Wilson had a very fast jab and surprised me. I always enjoy fighting someone from ATT. They are very cool respectful guys.

Mike: Could you tell us a little about how you started in MMA?
Alan: I started in karate at age 8, then at 14 started learning about Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu. I trained under Max Bishop, a student of Gokor and Gene Lebell, started fighting and that was that. Here we are.

Mike: I heard Patrick Cote has called you out, is that a fight you would like next? And how do you think you two matchup?
Alan: Sure, why not. Cote is a big name and a win will put me in the driver’s seat. He has heavy hands and likes to stand. I don’t think he will try and take me down, so we will see if I can outsmart him on the feet, if it happens.

Mike: I know you also said you would like to face a legend like Wanderlei, if the two of you fought, how do you think that would go?
Alan: I would be super geeked for that fight. I would want to win with a highlight KO.

Mike: You have had some great fights so far in your career, is there one that stands out to you more then the others?
Alan: My last fight was my favorite. I really wanted to prove to myself I could let my hands go and fight like I was able to, and I did. It was in front of my family and friends so that made it more important to shine and I delivered under pressure.

Mike: Who in your opinion is the pound for pound best in the sport?
Alan: This is a hard question, maybe BJ, Fedor, GSP, Anderson, all have attributes that differ from the others. I hope to be in that list some day.

Mike: What's the hardest part of being a professional MMA fighter?
Alan: Losing.

Mike: How do you see Vitor Belfort vs Anderson Silva going down when it happens?
Alan: Belfort will be Anderson’s most dangerous opponent on the feet for sure; it depends on who finds the range first.

Mike: And which do you feel you would matchup with better?
Alan: To be honest, I would rather fight Anderson, he’s more of a counter style… but Belfort can go hard both forward and backward.

Mike: What do you think is the hardest shot you have ever landed?
Alan: Got to be the head kick I landed on Santiago, I didn’t put everything into it... but it was flush.

Mike: And what's the hardest you have been hit (sparring/fight/training etc)?
Alan: As an amateur I got cut, and dropped by Seth Kleinbeck, I forgot the whole night.

Mike: If you could play matchmaker for a day, what's one fight you would love to set up and then sit back and watch it go down as a fan?
Alan: Either Fedor and Lesnar or Aoki vs BJ.

Mike: If they brought a tag team belt to MMA, and you were to take place in the MW tournament, who would you want as your partner?
Alan: Akiyama because he’s got sneaky tactics, just kidding. Probably Maia or Sonnen, we are opposites and would compliment each other.

Mike: Last one. If they made a movie about your life, who would you want them to get, to play your character?
Alan: Me. Hell yeah, I want to start acting asap. Seriously.

Mike: Anything you would like to add?
Alan: Follow me on twitter/alanbelcherufc and check out alanbelcher.net.

Mike: Thanks so much for your time man!
